The brief 

The House of Commons wanted a communications strategy for its free publications. It needed to provide the public with information to help them understand and appreciate the work of the House and its Members. Improved public engagement with the House and better input into Parliamentary process was key.

Our approach 

Through desk research and interviews, we explored the attitudes, behaviours and needs of the different types of visitors to the House. These range from visits organised by MPs constituency offices, tourist visitors, attendees at committees, observers in the public galleries and people who’ve been to Parliamentary outreach events. Through clear audience segmentation we proposed a streamlined publications suite, reducing an unwieldy range of 33 documents down to just 14. Our report also tackled the tricky balance of digital and print media and the choice of language translations.

Ultimately we delivered a practical and realistic communications strategy, highlighting the future opportunities for the House of Commons to work with partners on actively engaging audiences through their publications.

The result 

We have been recommissioned by Westminster, delivering work for the House of Lords and for The Palace of Westminster.
